Meet Our New Long Term 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel:

Putting The Third Generation EcoDiesel To The Test...

If you follow us on Instagram you likely already know that we recently purchased a new long term test truck. While co-editor Robert Miller still has his 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie Sport 5.7 Hemi that he purchased last year, after recently spending a week with a 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel I knew it was time for me to upgrade as well. The full review on that truck is still coming, but for now, let us take a look at our newest member of the fleet and talk about why I bought it.

Our new truck is a Laramie Longhorn in Ivory tri-coat with the body color bumper group, advanced safety group, bed utility group, Longhorn level 1 group, panoramic sunroof, 33-gallon tank, 22-inch wheels, 3.92 gears and of course the new third-generation 3-liter EcoDiesel V6.

Why the EcoDiesel?

I wanted the EcoDiesel for a variety of reasons, during my week-long test of the Limited Black edition EcoDiesel I was incredibly impressed at the quietness, smoothness, power delivery and fuel economy. I was never a big fan of the EcoDiesel in the 4thGen trucks, but this new third-generation  EcoDiesel won me over. We have also all heard stories of rocky reliability with the previous generation EcoDiesel (issues that Ram says are fixed on the third-generation powerplant) so we look forward to putting the new engine to the test and relaying our experiences to our readers.

What have we done so far?

While we have owned the truck for a few weeks now, I haven’t had a lot of time behind the wheel. The reasoning for that is immediately after I bought it I sent it out to have a few things done. I had the front grille wrapped in body color and black, along with having the side mirror caps wrapped in body color, the chrome window trim also got wrapped gloss black. While the shop was at it I had them do a CeramicPro Kavaca clear bra on the entire front end including full hood and front fenders, and ceramic coat the entire truck with CeramicPro.

After getting the truck back from the shop I then added a Mopar hard tri-fold tonneau cover, Mopar window visors and Mopar molded splash guards. I plan on doing more to the truck in the future and will, of course, keep everyone updated on what we do. I think a sport performance hood and Rebel or custom painted taillights would bring the look together.

So far I am loving the truck and look forward to keeping you all in the loop as to how it performs over time. We will regularly be doing videos on our YouTube channel along with updates on how the truck is performing at 3-month intervals. We will also be doing stories and videos on modifications as they happen and plan on doing some tests along the way.
