Anybody know what that ticking + high-pitched squeaking sound is? I'm hearing it in my engine and it's kind of driving me crazy.

Waterpump. Get a long ratchet extension bar, place one end on your ear, the other end on the housing of the various moving accessories metal housings, and i bet its most noticeable on the front of the water pump. Mechanics stethoscope!!

I have that chirp. Mine is only noticeable under load in 4 & 5 geer at 3k rpm. Was told by dealership today that it’s because I run 87 octane and I should be running 89 octane. I think it’s a pulley or tightened but no they say it’s the fuel. I’ll run better octane now and see if that changes it. I’d it doesn’t it’ll go back. Truck has 10k miles on it. Fantastic!!!!!!

I appreciate the reply, but can almost 100% guarantee that the noise from that video is not due to octane. I run 87 octane now too because during the winter my truck isn't pulling/working. But when running 87 and then driving it hard, I hear it "pinging", which is a very noticable but different sound under throttle. Running 89/91 octane the pinging goes away, but the noise in that video (more of a "tick" than a "ping") is still there under idle, with any octane I use.

I appreciate the reply, but Ram actually doesn't care north of the border.

The video I linked to is not mine; but my truck has done it since brand new, noticed it on like my second or third time walking out to the truck after using remote start.

Hey guys, I am brand new to this forum. I just picked up my 2020 Laramie last week. I noticed it makes a squeaking noise when idling like a belt or something. Sales guy told me it just needs to driven to get everything going and loosened up. It had 5 miles on it when I left the lot. I have 150 miles on it now and the noise is still there. Any thoughts or concerns? Thanks

Hi @adoto1123 - I apologize that you are experiencing this concern with your truck. If you are willing to try and address this further with your dealer, or perhaps work with a different local dealer, I would be more than happy to escalate a case on your behalf to a specialist that can work alongside you and your dealer on this. Our team is always a private message away.

Did you find out what that ticking noise is? I have a 2020 Lamarmie with 2500 miles & started ticking when it idles. Someone said that the dealer said to use 89 octane, I use 93. Going to take in but was wondering if you figured it out
