Vibration resonance in steering wheel or driver side dash

I can't pin down the source, but I get a consistent audible buzzing vibration at 35-40 mph in my steering wheel or instrument cluster. Haven't noticed it to be weather/temperature related, but definitely seems like the frequency from the tires at that speed is causing something to resonate. Running Rebel wheels/tires on an otherwise stock Limited.

Hi bbetts00,

We certainly understand why this would be troubling. If you're not able to track down the vibration based on advice provided here and you decide to address it with your dealer, please let us know. We would be more than happy to escalate a case on your behalf to provide you with an additional layer of assistance as you work with your dealer. We are just a private message away.

It's been a year and a half, and the issue has only gotten worse. I've made multiple trips now to Nyle Maxwell in Austin, and they've had my truck for multiple days on more than one occasion. They continue to say they can't hear it, replicate it, or fix it. This is hard to believe, as I suffer this almost daily. I've ridden with the dealer a couple of times, and of course it hasn't "buzzed" when I'm riding with them (it's intermittent, as noted previously). Here is a video of the issue. I've shared these videos with the dealer as well, but they say they can't take action based on a video. I'm at my wit's end. Please help!

It's a long shot, but if it's intermittent it could be the active noise cancellation (ANC) malfunctioning. Next time it makes the noise, roll down your window a little bit as this turns off the ANC. If the noise goes away that could be your problem. There is a TSB to correct the problem as well as some diy solutions

I have the same issue since installing my mud tires. Same problem with my 19 Laramie as well after the mud tire install. Seems the ANC sometimes can't adjust or over adjusts for the frequency or something.

Look under your driver seat, there is a silver box that is the ANC module. There is a bypass cable that can be used or de-pin/snip the proper wires. Take a dive into this thread to get a better idea

Thanks for the lead, sure hope this is the issue! I just ordered the bypass cable. Also saw on the linked thread that there is a TSB 08-033-19 that flashes the ANC module and has apparently fixed the issue for some. I’ll try the bypass first to confirm that the ANC is causing my issues.

Unfortunately it looks like the bypass cable and pin pulling instructions only apply to the 6-speaker systems. I have the 9-speaker Alpine in a Limited. I posted on the other thread, but anyone here know how to disable ANC on the 9-speaker Alpine? If I can't find a compatible bypass cable, I assume I'll either need to cut the wires at the ANC/amp module or at the ANC microphones.

I have the same vibration. How would the ANC play into this tho? Mine does it more on 4auto

The system works by using microphones to detect cabin noise, and then injecting audio frequencies 180 degrees out-of-phase with detected noise in an attempt to cancel it (exactly how noise-cancelling headphones work). Apparently there are lots of issues with the Ram implementation, and mods to the truck can throw the system off. If this is my issue, I think changing my OEM 20's to the Rebel wheels/tires might be what triggered this. I'm not sure yet if this is the root cause, but it's a good lead that I'm pursuing. Now just need to figure out how to disable ANC with my 12" Alpine system.

What you are hearing is, or should I say, what I am hearing, are the Dura-tracks pads hitting the pavement, they also send a vibration to the steering wheel and the pedals.
The more miles, the louder they get, the way it is.

Took my vehicle to the dealer yesterday. They kept it overnight and said there was something loose associated with the gas pedal which was resonating up to the dash. Drove it today and seems to be gone!
