Noticed Mopar now has the accessory kit to add the tailgate dampening to lower end trim levels. The picture looked just like the aftermarket struts that go between the tailgate and bed, but in reading the instructions this is quite different. I also assume this is how all trim levels handle the tailgate dampening. You have to remove the driver's side taillight and the strut goes inside of it connected to a lever which pivots as the tailgate moves.

This got me to thinking - if that lever is inside the left rear part of the bed (what the darker strut connects to in the diagram), Ram or someone else could use that for a tailgate closing mechanism, ala Chevy. There's no wiring in there, that we know of, that could be hooked up to run such a tailgate closer but that's just wiring. They already given us the harder, mechanical portion that is already rated for the weight of the tailgate.
