One of the questions we have been getting over the past year is, will the 5th generation of Ram Trucks get a Regular Cab model. Well thanks to our friends at Real Fast Fotography, we can confirm that the upcoming Ram Heavy Duty (HD) will in fact get a Regular Cab model. These photos show a 5th generation Ram 2500 HD in a Regular Cab long box configuration.

Forum member, IChime posted some 2020 HD information about a week ago and we have been able to confirm it through our sources and spy photos. The 5th generation Ram HD models will not follow suit of the 2019 Ram 1500 (DT) models and instead have a more pronounced “big rig” styling and continuing and enhancing the look the current 4th generation Ram HD trucks have. The all-new HD trucks will have optional LED front lighting and will share the same look of grille inserts that the Ram 1500 models have. We also see that these prototypes are carrying the new Ram Head logo on the wheels.

Expect the new trucks to have Regular Cab, Crew Cab and Mega Cab options. Yes, we have heard Mega Cab WILL return on the top-tier levels with a unique “lounge” seating option and rear seat entertainment. Boxes and Regular and Crew Cabs will be shared with the Ram 1500. We also hear the new HD models will have an almost identical interior as it’s half ton counterpart and yes, the 12.1-inch Uconnect system will make its way into the new truck.

The 6.7-liter Cummins turbo diesel and the 6.4-liter HEMI return for duty. However, we have yet to hear anything about the 5.7-liter HEMI coming back and instead it may be exclusive to the Ram 1500. There will be at least two outputs for the Cummins engine. Both versions of the engine will have over 400 horsepower and pushing close to 1,000 ft.-lbs. of torque. We also hear Aisin will still supply automatic transmissions for the new HD.

Expect the new Ram HD models to make their official debut in Detroit at the North American International Auto Show in January. It is a suiting fit for the HD to make its first appearance there, since production for the HD is moving from the Saltillo Truck Assembly Plant in Saltillo, Mexico to the Warren Truck Assembly Plant in Warren, Michigan. Warren is a suburb of Metro Detroit. Warren Truck will undergo a huge modernization after the 4th generation Ram 1500 ends production sometime later this summer. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is investing over a $1 billion into the Warren Truck plant, which will not only build the Ram HD trucks, but the all new DT-platform based Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer.

Thank you @redriderbob and @Jared Balfour .

Now if someone would just say Powerwagon Regular Cab long bed with a 6 Speed manual...out of my mind I would go.

I can't wait to see the missing camo shots, and hopefully the 1500 regular cab soon.

Good news that @ichime added to the inside info accurately.

Awesome.

400 horse in the Cummins sounds good, largely because it gives me hope that the 6.4 will eventually a boost. I hope they hit 1,000 tq with the Cummins. Someone is going to get it soon, might as well be Ram. The Megacab is a pleasant surprise I wasn't expecting. I could dream of a Megacab long box, but the extra cab space of the new crew will already be an improvement.

Thanks for the shout-out and very happy to contribute!

The new Ram HDs would be the only truck I'd trade my current truck for (2014 2500 Laramie in two-tone blue streak pearl). Was hoping that Ford and GM would make things more competitive but the new Ford Super Duties look just plain ugly IMO and the new GM twins might follow suit (with the ugliness) with an added bonus of a worse interior than the previous gen.

Looks like the headlights are taller than on new 1500, and the grille designs are the same but the openings on the grille aligned to the headlights are much taller as well.

I agree. One thing is pretty clear, these HDs will be much more differentiated from the 1500s than ever.
