My panoramic sunroof headliner is driving me crazy. The headliner is loose fitting on the front right side.

The left side is tight as can be and noise free. The right side has some play in it, which allows the headliner to tick and click when driving.

The headliner is held in place with industrial pkastic Velcro type fasteners. I have no idea why the right front (passenger) side can move up and down when the fasteners are locked together. It is so annoying. Both top and bottom fastener are in their respectine retainers, but the right side has excessive play to it. I've shoved foam there to place downward pressure against the headliner to try and eliminate the small amount of travel that allows it to make noise. This works for a while then the noise starts to come back.

I've got hour after hour and evening after evening into trying to remedy this. I'm afraid to let the dealer attempt to repair this, because of the "rip and tear, greasy paw print factor".

Has anyone had similar noise from their pano headliner? Has anyone that has had noise, successfully repaired it?

I really haven't had time to enjoy the 3 weeks of ownership of my Longhorn, because of all the squeaks, groans, ticks and rattles. Under 700 miles so far and not off to a good start!

No noise on mine. Surprised to hear they used velcro to keep it up. Ford uses magnets on the F150s.

Yeah, heavy Velcro is what they use. I was able to snap a photo of one of the offending noisy ones. As you can see, it doesn't even line up correctly.

This fastener is at the right side windshield header, to the left of the"A" pillar. The gray colored area you see above the fastener is the bump stop for the sliding sunshade. Screenshot_20181113-202317_Photos.jpg

I have no noise but did notice when cleaning up way too much grease on the sunroof that my drivers side is lined up and tight but the passenger side is hanging lower due to the "velcro" hangers. I was able to push up on the headliner and get it to "click in" better but it popped back to where it was previously after one drive.
I've gone back to ignoring it but obviously either something doesn't fit right or was installed poorly.

Mine is like that as well. Driver side fits very well. Passenger side is loose and hangs lower.

I have found that the fasteners are what's making the noise.

The bottom fastener is a hard black plastic square that slides into a mounting holder. It fits loosely. The top part is a white fabric loop square. I think because of the loose fit, the black plastic part rattles and clicks. Plus it has the weight of the headliner pulling down on the fastener to help it rattle.

My entire headliner is off center. All the Velcro fasteners are off center to the right. The headliner itself is right up against the sunshade rail on the driver side. There is a gap between the headliner and the sunshade rail on the passenger side.

To center all the fasteners, the entire headliner would have to move over to the driver side, which cannot happen, since the headliner is already up against the sunshade rail. That would also make the gap on the passenger side bigger Definitely not the best fit in the world!

I may try to loosen the headliner up on the passenger side and let it hang down. That way there is no pressure on the offending fasteners to let them make noise.

I've got way too much of my time into this now. If there were only no noise when I drive the truck, I'd be happy. But that constant clicking drives me crazy.

I've also got a noise like a loose bolt is rolling around in the dash when the vehicle starts or stops moving.

I'm thinking whatever team of workers put my truck together must not have been happy employees.

I've also got way too much black grease on the sunroof mechanism, like yours. I got it all over me while cleaning.

I've got my first warranty issue with the new Limited. I had just closed the sunroof and the cover....and bang! A crazy sound over my head and to the left. Sounded like a long spring or something breaking and shooting along the left side of the truck. Now when attempting to retract the sunroof the cover drags and begins to wrinkle up. Something in the mechanism to keep the cloth cover tight during opening and closing let go in a big way.

Oh geez, I hope the dealer can fix it for you. I get a little nervous when dealer staff has to pull down a headliner. Keep us posted!

Yeah, I'm also concerned. Wouldn't surprise me if folks experiencing similar issues had the same thing happen, they just weren't there when it let go. Who knows maybe they have some trick or gizmo that can fix it without taking down the headliner. I'll find out and update the thread.

I wish you luck.

It'll be a matter of time until my headliner noise annoys me enough to let the dealer rip and tear to try and fix what the factory did insufficiently. Then I have the rolling bolt sound inside the dash that needs to be addressed.

I really want to see FCA succeed with these trucks and be number 1 in the market. The trucks certainly havel the potential to be "world class". There is no other truck and not many luxury cars that are as nice as these new RAM 1500's. Quality control at the factory definitely needs to be addressed. Assembly quality is subpar.

I know you can have issues with any brand, but I want RAM to be number one! They need to step it up a few notches.

Where he heck is Ryan Nagode when I need him?

I had this exact same problem. At first thought it was the passenger visor. Every bump I heard a click. Eventually figured out that it was one of th Velcro tabs on the headliner. Mine line up. My theory is that the top ones are supposed to be glued to the ceiling but they missed the glue on one. So the weight of the headliner is causing it to smack into the roof. I was going to pry the roof down and try to glue it myself but I took a different approach that has worked for 800 miles so far. I took a small piece of t shirt fabric and folded it. Then I crammed it between the two pieces of Velcro. So there is now one less support holding the roof but I cannot see the difference and it no longer clicks. There were a LOT of other Velcro points so I am not that worried about the support. You just need to get the one piece that is clicking. Use your hands to pull down multiple attachment points in that area and then wedge just the bad one and then push the others back up. I would not let the dealer take down my headliner for this. You could also try gluing the bad piece if you really want to fix it right. But that seemed trickier.

I actually had shoved air conditioner foam up between the roof and headliner, that didn't work.

I think the clicking on mine is the hard black plastic bottom Velcor fastener. None of mine fit tightly in their respective retainers. This is besides not lining up with the top white soft loop fastener.

I took one out and placed some foam between it and its retainer to try and make it fit tighter. That didn't work either.

Next, I'll try your idea. I'm so frustrated with the assembly quality.

Thanks for a reply! I appreciate the time you took to respond.

NP. My approach is a bit different. Separate the Velcro pieces and keep them apart so that they can't pull on one another. That clicking was driving me nuts. The truck is so quiet that it was really obvious.

I will try that. Mine makes that annoying noise even on smooth roads, not just over bumps. I too thought it was the sun visor at first.

The headliner shouldn't need much support in that area anyway. It's held in place in that area by the sun visor anchor.

I agree, the truck is so quiet, that the noise becomes your dominant focus. That's all you hear.

Add a rolling bolt noise inside the dash to mine, and you've got a ticket to drive me crazy.

At least they didn't charge me extra for those two noises!

I have the same issue... I find the noise annoying as hell. I really like the panoramic sunroof, especially here in AZ in the winter, but that noise is for the birds.

I've had the same 'itch' noise @ the passenger-side front sunroof opening (close to the windshield). It definitely is from the Velcro fasteners.
BTW, this is a late July-build Limited.
Yes, given how nice & quiet these things are, that annoying sound is...well....most annoying!
I believe that I finally solved it though, by cutting some very high-density black foam pieces & wedging/shoving them very snugly into the opening wherever there is room. The foam seems to have stasblized any agitation / movement in there, thus keeping the Velcro pieces from moving & making noise.

Great photography, 19Jake!

I should add that the Mrs. drives a late-October build '19 Longhorn......no 'itch' noise up there at all.
I've been meaning to take a peek in that one to see if they change the fastening, or added foam @ the factory. I'll bet they did.

BTW, found & bought that Longhorn @ the last minute, so I could get the Lifetime warranty.
I have an '09 Laramie w/324,000, still under warranty.....drives & looks almost new still.
Also have the Lifetime on the '19 Limited (I/we drive a lot).

Mine was a late September build. I've tried the foam method. At first I thought I succeeded and silenced the noise, but it came back.

Many of us have this noise in the same exact area. Obviously there is a defect. Hopefully FCA will man up and come up with a fix.

I've got mine subdued by placing thin foam underneath the velcro fastener in its retainer to stop the movement, but there still is some noise.

C'mon FCA figure this out and fix it for us! There are many of us with this same defect!
