My 2020 Big Horn with the level 2 equipment package, has the factory security alarm system according to its build sheet, but I have never seen the indication light flash anywhere on or in the dash as indicated in the owners manual. Apparently the light is supposed to flash rapidly several times when locking the doors, then slowly after a few seconds, but I've never seen it. There is a small black plastic bulb shape spot, built in the center dash speaker that I thought might be the indicator, but it does not light up or blink. Does anyone know where the indictor is supposed to be and if that is something that the dealer should have turned on or that I turn on? I have not found anything in the manual other than how it blinks and nothing in the apps on the 8.4 screen. Any idea's?

On Sept 3rd 2019 Rebel Guru wrote; I confirmed I had it by locking the truck with the driver's windows down. Made sure my key was at least 20 feet away, when I manually unlocked it by pulling the inside door handle and the alarm went off. I tried this and the alarm does sound. So this confirms that the alarm is on. The only mystery now is the case of the blinking light?

The 'RED' led blinking light should be active when you lock your truck, if not you can turn it on thru the AlpaObd software...

Don't know anything about AlpaObd? Only info at (AlpaObd.com) shows that it's something Fiat uses. No mention of a Ram under compatible vehicles. I guess I could call my dealer and see if that's a warranty issue? If, not I will just be happy the alarm works without the light. Thanks for your time and have a great Thanksgiving!

I have a 2020 Bighorn as well with the level 2 also. The Sentry Key theft deterrent system is listed under standard equipment and not under level 2 equipment group on my window sticker. It should just work after u lock the doors. It’ll be noticeable on the instrument cluster. Info about it can be found on page 25 of the owners manual.

Also, the small plastic bulb looking thing on the dash is a sensor for the auto headlights.

Use this link: https://fcacommunity.force.com/RAM/s/equipment-listing

Put your vin number in there and get your build sheet. Hit CONTROL & F to bring up the search function, and type "security". If you have the alarm, it will show up under optional equipment as SECURITY ALARM on your build sheet. I would download your build sheet for later reference of all the equipment and options on your truck.

For me, I didn't realize I had the alarm until someone told me it should come with my truck. As others have mentioned, I tested it by rolling down my drivers window and locking the truck, then making sure the key was 20 feet or more away, reached in and unlocked the door, and the alarm went off. I honestly haven't noticed any lights or anything on the dash that let me know I had an alarm system. But based on what Mr Hindsight said, I'll take a look in the garage later to see if the light is flashing as per pg 25 of the PDF manual he posted.

I have the Security Alarm listed on the build sheet and after doing the test listed above, I found it works quite well. What made me think it was not working or that I didn't have the security alarm was there was no blinking light anywhere in the cab when I locked it. The blinking light listed on page 25 is just not there. The cluster I have is the larger one that's listed as a Premium 7.0 multi color, if that makes any difference. As for the small plastic bulb shape sensor on the dash I believe that is the real auto headlight sensor. I was told that the sensor located in the rear view mirror mount was the auto headlight sensor. It's a small diamond shape spot that can only be seen from the outside, looking at the rear view mirror mount on the windshield. While looking at the trucks at my 5 different dealerships nearby I discovered, not all trucks have this, only the ones that had the auto dim mirror. So that brings up another question as to what that sensor is for? Again, thanks to everyone for their time and information!

My username is brouderp, my dealer said they don't know what is wrong which is unacceptable. I bought the truck 4 days ago and its been nothing but issues. I am escalating these issues because I think I'm going to return the truck.

In what state is that permissible? just to "return the truck"?

Well, I have a '19 Laramie that DOES NOT have the Theft Alarm system and every time I start the engine the little round, red alarm indicator in the upper right portion of the cluster illuminates for two seconds, then goes out.

What should I do?

After a rear window break in, and repairs costing ~$6,000 I went ahead and had a Viper alarm installed utilizing the factory key fob. The Viper cost me ~$650. Its a big improvement in the trucks security. Recently I found a security system that beats all of them and it takes only 30 seconds to install. I watched every video and review and its the absolute best. When you use your key fob to activate your alarm the smart thief uses a small "blue box" to unlock your vehicle as quickly as you locked your doors.
The amazing alarm/security system cannot be deactivated by using a fob or clone device. The devices App. will notify you in under 6 seconds with a series of facts. Unlocked, "engine on event", suspension "low force impact" etc. I love this brilliant device. If you have multiple cars just unplug it and snap in into another vehicle and its protected. This device communicates on cellular to your smart phone. Super fast! The device is called BMMPR. There are two models. The premier is called BMMPR One, the second less expensive unit is called BMMPR SE. They will both work and protect. I bought the BMMPR One. Retail is $399.00 I Since I don't live in California, no tax. YOU CAN BUY IT HERE WITH A CODE FOR SAVINGS........Use coupon code AUTO339 at checkout to get this product for $60 off. At the 4th year,

BMMPR will charge $20. per year. going forward this covers their cost of the cellular network etc..

Had I known about this I would have caught the runt who busted into my rear window and left me a disaster. Its a totally awesome product.

Here are some great videos explaining the technology.

I do use the Viper because it was professionally installed, when I use my fob to open or close it sets the alarm. and It does work fantastic, however if I in a store I won't hear the alarm. If I want I can pay Viper for a cellular connection which has a monthly cost which I refuse to pay. This BMMPR is so unbelievable and down the road you will pay $20.00 a Year, not per month. I watched everything on line about this device and it was designed to perform with precision. Just using the factory alarm or no alarm BMMPR has you covered. You can move it from car to truck and back again. Even in a rental on a vacation. It just snaps in, and as quickly pull it out. So far the best money spent. My insurance gives a discount for GPS tracking too.

I pay for the viper cellular service and it’s pretty convenient… I also have my alarm hooked up to my train horns so I’ll hear it in the store anyway 😂

No question Viper is excellent and expensive for getting all the options. If your door is opened with a blue box fob your alarm will not sound. Those boxes are plenty in Houston. Even if one of your Family takes the keys while you may be at a neighbors house, you will still get several notices at one time. The vehicles key doesn't control the BMMPR your cell phone does. Once you get a BMMPR you will down load the app at the app store. I have the app on my iPhome Max, when you open the app it will marry your cell phone to the BMMPR . Your phone is the "key" when you get within 30 feet the BMMPR will know. I believe it called an accelerometer anything you do to that truck will get picked up and sent immediately to your cell phone. Since we have a Viper, this BMMPR is the failsafe. The really "gone in 30 seconds" thief has no clue with this device aboard your car. It has GPS capabilities.

Bluesurf, have you tested the BMMPR? I see reviews of it working and then other videos of the "tennis ball" test where nothing happens. It looks awesome if it really works.
