Low speed shifting

2019 5.7L 4WD w/3.92 gears shifts horribly at low speeds. When in 1st and pressing slightly on the gas, the truck will jerk forward. When letting off the gas, it slows quickly causing a forward jolt. This happens all the way up to 4th gear. Highway speeds seem normal. My older vehicles (F150 with 6 speed, Jeep Wrangler 4 speed, Ford Fusion) do not shift this harshly, and I would have thought the 8 speed would actually be smoother.

If I could equate it to anything, it would be like a new driver of a stick shift revving the RPMs too high before letting off the clutch, or slamming in the clutch with the revs high before shifting.

Transmission valve body has already been replaced due to the park/drive issue.

Is this normal for this vehicle?

You may want to post how many miles you have on your vehicle. There is a breakin period for the trans to learn your driving style, but even when new, mine was not that jerky.
Just about to turn 7,000 miles. I'm pretty sure break in is done. It has actually gotten worse the past 1,000 miles.

There are TSBs for the transmission.
Several updates.
Take it in.

Can you say more on this TSB. I've searched and can't find anything.

Thanks for the information. Two questions:
1) My build date is outside of those ranges and/or my engine does not match. Can I safely assume that the TSBs do not relate to my problem then, or are there cases where the TSB should still be applied?
2) Is there a way to see what TSBs/updates have been applied to a particular vehicle, outside of going to the dealer?

1) bring it in and tell them your issues.
2) not to my knowledge

They automatically check for updates when brought in for service.

Same deal here, 5300 miles. Reminds me of driving a Duramax truck with Allison trans. Mine only does it when cold and first get going, I've gotten used to it. Once it warms up it's fine

This is not normal. Take it in and don’t let them tell you it’s “within specifications”.

I'm having the same issue. It also got stuck in 1st gear at one point, wouldn't shift. I turned the truck off and back on and it shifted after that, but the check engine light stayed on. Took it to the dealer a couple weeks ago, they checked it over and applied the software update noted in the TSB, but it still doesn't seem right. It only seems to happen right when I take off after first starting it. It lags in shifting then slams into 2nd.

I was having this same issue - came back from a trip and in airport parking - truck wouldn't shift out of first gear and had to be towed in to dealership, and it's waiting on a valve body replacement. It's been in for 15 days, now, and finally got the Grand Cherokee loaner swapped out for a plain Jane 2WD Ram truck today. Part came in 5 days ago, but technician just noticed that the "pan to the transmission and one of the sensors on the valve body were damaged in the box". I don't know why they don't inspect them when they come in... So hopefully it will only be another couple weeks in the base model truck waiting for the backorder. I'm not happy.
