LED Reverse Lights

I was reading threads for a few weeks trying to decide on either the Opt7 triple, or the Vleds Lpr. Both ideas seemed like they had issues or overly complicated to install, so I went another route. I mounted 2 auxiliary backup led lights under my rear bumper. They only come on in reverse, and I didn’t have to drill any holes or tap into any factory wiring.

I wired the lights into a trailer wire harness y-splitter. Meaning I wired into the splitter, and just plugged the splitter into my factory trailer plug. My stock plug coming out of the rear bumper is still available, and I actually have a spare plug available under the bumper as well.

I mounted the lights with 3” exhaust clamps to my trailer hitch frame.

It was kind of an experiment at first so I got some cheap lights from Amazon. I purchased the Nilight led flood lights, 60001F-B part number.

I’ll post some pictures once I get a chance to take some.

Cool, definitely want to see pics. I just put in the much brighter cargo upper lights and they help light up everything better. I also created a lightshow with the Tazer that turns on all lights steady on (Brights, Lows, Fogs, Reverse, Puddles, Blinkers) but I didn't see the programming option for the cargo lights with the lightshow.

Here’s some pictures of how they’re mounted.

Looks great. Can you get some pics of the screen at night to see the extra illumination?

I think I'm going to steal your idea, but might choose more of a slimline single row light.

Here’s the lights on at about 5am in the camera and mirror. I think I’m going to do some adjusting on the lights and turn them outward and up a little to have more throw to the sides and farther away from the truck. But even as they are now the light output is awesome!

Great idea adding a splitter and tapping that vs the factory stuff. Can you give us a part number for the splitter?

Hey kbonk great minds think alike here are mine just about finished with the setup, you might want to take a look at my mounting option this way you can get them down farther and throw that light. PM me if you have any questions

It’s funny you suggest that, because the first thing I planned to do was almost exactly what you did. I even bought that bracket and was going to cut my pieces then saw the idea about the exhaust clamps and that seemed easier. I also wanted the lights more tucked up under the bumper, almost so they cannot be seen. I’m going to do some adjusting on the lights and see how that goes, then maybe do something more like yours if that doesn’t work out.

Looks great guys. I'm really digging Kbonk's setup, so I just placed an order on Amazon for the following items:
  • OEM Trailer Plug Wiring Harness Y-Adapter Converter Splitter 040-984 (This thing will come in VERY handy for the life of the truck) - $38
  • Nilight 60001F-B Bar 2PCS 18w 4" Flood Fog Road Boat Driving Led Work Light SUV Jeep Lamp - $13
  • 3" Stainless Saddle Style U-Bolts Exhaust Muffler Clamp with Flat Band Double Edge - $8
I may switch to a set of S2's like Brawler is using at a later date, if these 13 dollar specials don't last. We'll see. I'll post some pics when everything comes in.

These two pictures would be better to go off of than previously posted. I tapped into the purple and white wires on the harness.
