I'm in the market for a new radar detector

I'm thinking about getting a radar detector and have seen recent great reviews about the Valentine V2 and the Uniden r7. Apparently there are quite a few Ram owners on this site that have an r7. Anyone with experience with a Valentine unit or other brand? Also what have been your experiences so far if you have an r7?

Thanks for your input.

I have an Escort Max 3 now and really like it. Over the past 13 years this is my 2nd Escort. Can't go wrong with either of the 2 you mentioned as well.

Basically comes down to what all you want. There are a lot of options with with each brand and model. Mine is basically the "middle of the road" model but does what I want it to do.

I’ve got a valentine. Had it for probably 5 years. It’s solid. I leave it in my cobra as I don’t speed in my Ram. In the Cobra well…..

I have had a valentine one for about 10 years. I do believe the other brands have some more technology in them, the valentine one is no frills but tried-and-true.

Been running beltronics pro 300 and a escort 9500ix for years. They are solid and saved my *** countless times. I tend to speed more than I don't.

I'm sure there is some newer models that are better, but on the highway I'll catch them like a mile out. That's enough for me.

I had an escort years ago that was great. I need something mostly for driving around town and on the highways here in town (Denver). I noticed that the Valentine and Escort 360 both have long-range detection, like super long...don't think that I need something that extreme. But I want something that does a great job on my local commute. Thanks for the input.

I've had a few escort radar detectors in the past and now have a uniden r7, all great detectors. I do like the r7 a bit more though. Radenso has some solid options as well.

Search vortex radar in Google he is the man. He tests all the units hands down escort radar redline 360c is best over all but it's pricey I use it and it's the best I ever had. I coupled it with the AL priority laser jamming system and defeat the lidar 100 percent of the time.

Max 360C + BlendMount here as well. I’m happy with it. I added the smart controller that blinks a red light and that’s installed under my tachometer. Makes it easy to see the red flash when I have the music cranked up. the arrows are super helpful to know if ther’es a cop ahead or behind. You can click the mute button a few times to silent and then permanently silent which is nice because if there’s a 25MPH sign that has those blinks things that always triggers the alert and you drive through it every day, it’s nice to store that as recognized and never get the alert again. I have every speed sign that dings me stored for my commute.

Another vote for the Escort Redline 360c. One of the priciest units on the market at $749.99 MSRP but well worth it IMO. View attachment 114449

I had mine in that location buy was getting tons of falses on 24.058 moved it to the left a bit next to my mirror and no more falses. I think it has to do with the windshield camera or light sensor not sure though. Either way the best unit ever for me.

Put mine down here. Makes it easy to reach for muting. And is still in my peripherals.

Yup, same. Wired everything in using a fuse tap on fuse location F66 (ignition switched) in the fuse box underneath the steering wheel. Made for a pretty clean install.

I ran escorts for years until Waze became a thing. Now I solely use Waze- it hasn’t let me down in 4 years.

I have always had an Escort and still do. But WAZE is a great secondary alert and you are correct. It is about 99% accurate on radar locations.

Ok another question to pose...did you go the DIY route or have a professional install... can you let me know your thoughts on both? Thanks.

Nice setup. I have the exact same thing. Do you have issues with your detector showing you going 3 MPH faster than what your truck is doing?
Thanks. I have no issues with the detector's GPS speed reading off from the pickup's speedometer. By chance, have you installed larger diameter tires than factory without having the speedometer re-calibrated? That's about the only thing I can think of, other than an issue with the detector itself.

Is there anywhere to pull power for radar detector in the roof console?
