I love to drive it......but I am concerned.

I love driving my new Ram 1500 Limited but I have some serious concerns about the initial quality of the vehicle. The plan was to replace my 2017 Suburban AND my 06 GMC Duramax with my new Ram Limited......I have parted with the Suburban (the Ram rides much better) but I am not giving up my Duramax until I have more confidence in the 2019 Ram.

First and foremost I have SERIOUS water leak issues. The FIRST day I had the truck I drove through heavy rains and standing water. The next day my drives side front and rear carpets were SOAKED!! I used a wet vac to get out as much water as I could and it took a week for it to dry out completely. A few days later……driving in heavy rain again and again WET CARPET!!! I took the truck to the dealer and they “LEAK TESTED” it for a couple hours and found nothing. They tested the sunroof, 3rd brake light and doors……I told them I thought the water was coming from underneath the truck and they said they could not leak test that without removing the interior……that is not a good option but at least I would think they should replace the carpet since it already has an odor from being wet for 3 of the 4 weeks I've owned the truck.

Today my other issue occurred for the 2nd time. I was starting out on a 4 hour trip and my Uconnect did not have any volume (it was not the mute bottom)…..no music….no navigation volume, no phone….NOTHING. The first time this happened a couple week ago it was out for most of the day until it finally shut itself down and rebooted while I was driving. Today I happened to be near a Ram dealer and the were nice enough to hook it up to their computer and reboot it so I could go on my way. It is rediculous to have a 12” screen but no radio …..

Anyone else having similar situations?...…..any input you could offer would be much appreciated ……

Welcome to the forums @clarkehaven and yes a couple others have had water problems... search for “leak” and you’ll find this discussion (linked below)... the whole thread is good if I do say so myself (and please take the owner’s poll!) but this specific post and several after it discuss a hose grommet that has been found loose and not seated properly between the cab and the bed. Check it out, hope this is an easy fix... keep us posted if it ends up something else that we should look for.

Thanks Much YoAdrian. I had browsed this site for quite a while before purchasing my truck....it is a great resource. I just walked out and looked at my truck and BOTH of the drain grommets are pulled out away from the cab as pictured in the thread. I assume the dealer need to reinstall them since it pretty darn tight back there. It seems as thought I have had much more water in the front of the cab as opposed to the rear....I hope this is the solution but I have my doubts. I will update with any new info.

thanks again.....much appreciated

Hopefully that's all it is. Definitely keep us updated, sucks not having confidence in a brand new truck.

Water has a funny way of traveling where you wouldn’t expect it to... usually gravity drives it but sometimes it wicks all over the place. On the other hand be on the lookout for other grommets or rubber caps that might not be right, wherever water was flowing when you first discovered it. Let’s hope that’s it though!

Clarkehaven, I am having the same exact issues that you are. I had water leaking in the back and front of my cab in my 2019 Ram Limited. The back leak was resolved by having the dealer take out the back window, replace the seal and reinstall. Also they put silicone around the sunroof drain tubes that run out the back of the cab on both sides. This fixed the back leak. Now I have a leak on the front driver side when it rains the carpet is wet. I have found that water is coming in through the metal flange that the door seal attaches to when spraying water on the front lower drivers side corner of the front windsheild. You can see pics on my updated post, see link below. I pulled the drivers side door seal back off the flange at the bottom of the door, you can see in the pics water leaking in through the flange where its welded. Back to the dealer it goes, I have opened a case with Ram customer service to look at my options to replace the truck. I am done dealing with all these water issues, there is no excuse for this! I hope this helps you. https://5thgenrams.com/community/th...-running-take-our-poll.1017/page-5#post-23400

Hi clarkehaven,
I completely understand how all of this would be concerning in a brand new truck. How did your recent visit to the dealer go? Send us a private message if you are still in need of assistance.

UPDATE

I picked my truck up Friday after more than a week at the dealership(2nd trip) trying to fix my leak(S) . I was fortunate to get a very good service tech who was VERY determined to find the issues and fix them. The first was pretty easy since, with the help of the members on this site, I showed them the improperly installed drain grommets on the back of the cab. The second leak that they found was coming from a front fender assembly that was not sealed properly.

Florence gave me ample opportunity to drive in pouring rain and standing water this weekend and to this point it appears to be dry inside .......

I sure love driving this truck and now for the first time since the day after i bought it......i am not afraid to drive it in the rain!

Thanks to all for your input and help.

THANK YOU, Clarkhaven, for providing the "rest of the story." So often members seek advice, but then run out of time or forget to post the solution. Not only did your post address the drain grommet issue, which was already known, you helped identify another potential source of leaking.

Mikeg...My back leak was as I mentioned by replacing back window seal. My truck is back in the shop this week to get the front driver side leak fixed. I will update you on what they find.

Mikeg, also found this on another post that may be the fix for front drivers side leak. I am going to pass on to my service manager in the morning hoping it will give them some direction.....my front leak was from a inner fender fabrication that was not completely sealed when robotically assembled....tech said it look as if the machine ran out of sealant during the procedure. They sealed it manually and it seems to be working for now....drove through tropical storm on Sunday and my floors are dry…..back leak was from drain tubes....I looked on the dealer lot and EVERY Limited model in stock had the grommets out of the cab so I believe that IS a wide spread problem. I bet many owners don't check under the rear rudder mat......but you should.

I have same problem in the rear of my new 1500 Limited. The rubber grommet for the drains seem to be a problem, yet after seating them, rear still leaked after heavy rain. Very frustrating because I brought truck to dealer and they placed silicone on top of rear window on drivers side, which I did not want. I want the problem found not patched up. Expensive truck to have these type of problems

My 2019 Ram Limited is having water issues as well. We noticed it two days after purchasing it. We brought it to the dealer to have it detailed and to get inspection sticker. Upon returning home, we noticed they didn’t do a good job, so we decided to clean ourselves. When we removed back floor mat we discovered mold and the carpet was soaked. We called sales manager and he told us to bring it back for a deep cleaning. A week later Went to clean it again and when we removed floor mats, the mold was back and the carpet was wet throughout truck. The truck has been at the dealer for a week and they’re still investigating the issue! Another issue is squealing brakes. Service guy told me that’s normal due to where I live, but he would check them out. That’s BS! Guess I need to move out of Louisiana. We finally decided to purchase a new vehicle, limited at that, and this is what we end up with. I’ll update when the finish their investigation.

This must be frustrating and best of luck with the repairs. Definitely the result of a new manufacturing plant. There's a lot of "stuff" going on with these trucks and many kinks being worked out on the fly. I should have leased!
