Looking for ideas on how to get more usable space in garage. What’s everyone doing? I want to add some 42” wall cabinets for all my oils, cleaning products, yard products, etc. was also looking at wall mounted steel shelves. My current setup takes up a lot of floor space.

I’m in the process of putting up some unfinished oak cabinets. Eventually they will get painted to match the trim in the garage as I finish it one section at a time. I tried several configurations over the years but I got tired of everything on shelves being coated in dust and looking like a mess. They will be over the bench I built in the corner and I should have 6’ of cabinets on one wall and 10’ on the other.

I have the 4ftx8ft overhead storage rack that mounts to ceiling. It’s convenient and nice for storing rarely used items. It came from Costco and is well built. Was a pain in the *** installing though but that’s was due to my garage layout.

I would start watching craigslist and such for stores closing and liquidation sales. Get a few uprights and shelves from a grocery store, bolt 'em to the wall and you're set with some really solid stuff.

If money is no object, check out the closetmaid stuff at Home Depot. I did my wife's closet with some and it is pretty heavy duty. You start by bolting a horizontal rail across the span, the hook and hang uprights and secure them. Then comes wire shelves or some sturdy steel brackets that you provide the plywood shelves for.

The best option is shelves right up to the ceiling. First you need to decide what you want to store in the garage, then group the items and decide on the size. I bought standard shelves, and then I thought out myself to fit my needs. Your option with ceiling shelves is very good and easy to install. I recommend a forum with similar ideas. https://toolboxwiki.com/reviews/best-garage-shelving/

I built an elevator, to make use of a huge unused attic space above, so I could fit the new truck in the garage
Forgive the poor quality pic, it's a screen shot from a video.
