Hi all,

This is my first post. I have 600 miles on my truck and have noticed that after start/stop my truck will start moving forward (I’m assuming on the electric power) and then it feels like a downshift lag before real power starts up again. I hope that makes sense.

Any thoughts?

You don't list your build date in your sig so this might not apply to you. ET only provides at max approximately 1/2 a wheel rotation of power so any forward movement beyond that is your Hemi, not ET. There are a few transmission issues noted on the forum but the first step would be to have your dealer see if the three RRTs apply to your truck. These are updated firmware flashes for the PCM, transmission, and ET system. Some have reported that eliminated their issues, some not.

Many dealers play the "what's your issue?" game so go in describing your symptoms and let them figure out there are three updates and apply (if applicable). In any case, you need them to document the issue.

No idea what my build date is but I bought it in March and they said I had all RRTs done as well as the clunk mounts.

Build date is on your door jamb sticker. If you just bought it and they did all the updates, then it sounds like you've got something else going on. I'd work with your svc dept to get it documented. It greatly helps everyone, and forward progress, if you can get to where you can reproduce the issue on demand. That way you can take the advisor/tech for a ride and show them how it happens. Otherwise you can run up against the dreaded "could not duplicate" where they move on and everyone's time is wasted.

In my experience even when they say they feel it and then put it in the shop you still get that “could not duplicate”. Happened with my F-150 every damn time, even when the tech said oh yeah that’s what you mean, I feel it.

Can you give me the info on the updates needed? In the TSB/Recall section I see the most recent were December 2018 but I’ve heard there are newer ones.

I'm going to venture a guess and say it's normal. I feel the same thing. If I am focusing on it, it's there, when I'm not it doesn't seem to bother me. I think the reality is the handoff, while decent, is not really 100% seamless. There is a similar feeling I get when slowing to a stop and the eTorque braking is in effect. It "pulses" on slowing rather than being 100% seamless. It's decent tech, but still needs refinement.

I do notice a slight lag in acceleration if easing on the gas, especially in the mornings. But if the truck is warmed up and I hit it I don't feel any lag.

I believe it is the handoff as well, but for me it almost feels like it is in Neutral, eTorgue gets it moving, and then it goes into 1st gear. Obviously that is impossible, there is no way for it to move forward without being in gear, but that's the best way to describe it. Happens every time. Truck moves, then lugs like a low RPM downshift, then goes. Will make your drink spill.

I also get the annoying regen thing. I don't mind the gradual braking it gives me most of the time, but right before the final stop it has a pop out of gear let-go surge you have to be careful with. Reminds me of the old manual days using gear braking but then popping out of gear to neutral removes that and it coasts faster.

I also have a noticeable handoff between eTorque and the engine. No complaints with regen though.

Sure. I don’t know where to start. I know it has the updates. I don’t trust my dealer much and the others around here aren’t nice when you bought it somewhere else.

I understand where you're coming from and do genuinely apologize. Ultimately, to get this looked into, you'll have to visit your dealer as we're not trained technicians. Once you have an appointment date/set, send me a private message with that information. I'll escalate to a case specialist who'll work with that dealer toward a potential solution.

You're not alone, I feel the same thing.. Also what I've noticed is that the MDS engages at the wrong times, and causes the engine to "hiccup" in emergency situations, and is VERY dangerous... Dealer says it's "normal", yeah normal until someone gets killed... The e-torque/MDS algorithims leave a LOT to be desired, and in my opinion, not safe.

Hi Firepower2010,
We’re sorry to hear about this. We certainly understand how frustrating this may be. Please send us a private message if you need to return to the dealer so we can have this documented and provide you with additional assistance while your dealer works on a diagnosis.

This will not do me any good, unless there is a "code", the dealership says everything is "operating as designed". This is a flaw BIGTIME, and might become a fatal flaw for FCA....

I am so thankful for these forums. I am planning on ordering a 2020 this week. I was intrigued by the E-Torque tech and was thinking about getting it. But it looks like it is not ready for prime time yet. Ordering my Hemi without it. I did notice on the Ram website where you “build” your truck that E-Torque price has gone down to $200.

So this popped up in my 'what's new' feed and one thing I can say is the most recent trans update made ETq / trans shifting supremely better.

As someone noted above that there was a jerky handoff or shift causing a spilled drink etc - the new update solved it all. I hit a few stop signs a day and no rough 3-2-1 and rolling 2-1 and 1-2 handoffs; I wouldnt hesitate ETq at this point though my driving style doesn't reflect much fuel saving

I’ve had an torque for 15k and over a year now.
Flawless. Of course individual results will vary.
