E torque operation

Has anyone ever seen a good description of how exactly the eTorque system really works? I've got a 2020 Rebel with the e Torque Hemi and have never seen or quite understand just how it operates in layman's terms. I was trying to tell a couple friends and realized I'm not 100% sure what is really happening.
