Hi all, I have an 2018 Ram 1500 5.7Lt Big Horn with under 28000 miles. I have issues during acceleration. I have had it at two dealers and they can not find any codes, misfires or anything else. Here's the problem.. sometimes leaving my neighborhood I have to get into the throttle a little more than usual(3/4 throttle).. Gears 1 and 2 seem like they are lagging a bit. Shifts into third and starts off with same feeling then it's like you press a scramble (nitros) button and it will sit you back in the seat hard... on some occasions I have had it break the rear tires loose at that point... it doesn't do all the time and it doesn't matter if the tow/ haul is on/ off or if the eco mode(where you see what gear you are in) is on or off. Dealer had it all day 11/29 and could not get it to replicate... I took mechanic(who I have not explained anything too)for a drive and immediately he started feeling and describing the symptoms to me. Even joked not to press the nitro button... ha ha.. It doesn't matter if I am at a stop or if I just lay into the throttle at 45mph.. it will do it intermittently and in any gear... He mentioned the the MDS is not disengaging... and the mentioned something else that escapes my memory.

Anyone ever had this issue or know what it could be?

Hi John,

I'm sorry to hear of the trouble you are experiencing, I certainly understand why this would be concerning. I know that you are reaching out to fellow forum members on this, however if it would be of interest, I would be happy to escalate a case on your behalf to connect you with a case specialist for further assistance on this. Sounds like you're describing the truck transitioning from 4 cyl to 8 cyl mode (MDS on/off). To me, it doesn't feel like its good on the engine, so I always disable my MDS mode when cruising at low speeds. I do this my manually downshifting the trans with my steering wheel buttons, then selecting the gears I wish to lockout. It sounds to me like you've enabled your cluster to show what gear you're in all the time. This is not the same as locking out the Trans manually. Manual lockout is the only way to disable the MDS. Tow/haul mode still allows MDS to kick in. I'm sure if you get into the habit of downshifting manually, you will see this behavior disappear from your truck.
