Hello fellow Canadians,
Canadian Tire has motomaster 5W40 on sale for $22.99 for 5 quarts. This is the cheapest I have seen it. I've used this oil for my first oil change. It's API SN plus and meets MS12991 spec and is made by shell. I'm pretty sure it's just rebranded Pennzoil.

Anyways I thought I would post as it's a good deal for any Canadian guys or girls.

I know it says it meets MS12991 on the back of the bottle, I suppose that is all it needs to say in order to meet the requirements of FCA, but to me it kind of looks like a gasoline engine oil as there is no mention of diesel anywhere on there.. Nor does it in the write up Canadian Tire did:

"Exceeds API Baseline performance testing standards on wear protection, engine sludge protection, piston cleanliness, low temperature performance, and oil loss prevention in gasoline engines"

I am probably more anal than some when it comes to oil specifications so I might be wrong here, but I'm not sure its one I would want to use... someone else with more knowledge on the subject could chime in and help, because that is a great price and I have a Canadian tire about 5 minutes away! haha

It meets SN, SN plus, and MS12991. I don't think it matters if it says diesel in particular. It also meets VW 505.00 which is diesel engine specific.

Also I just did more research on what the ACEA A3/B3 and A3/B4 means

ACEA A3/B3 Stable, stay-in-grade Engine Oil intended for use in Passenger Car & Light Duty Van Gasoline & Diesel Engines and/or for extended drain intervals where specified by the engine manufacturer, and/or for year-round use of Low Viscosity Oils, and/or for severe operating conditions as defined by the Engine Manufacturer.

ACEA A3/B4 Stable, stay-in-grade Engine Oil intended for use in Passenger Car & Light Duty Van Gasoline & DI Diesel Engines, but also suitable for applications described under A3/B3.

So it seems they just didn't put diesel engines on the bottle.

I bought the Shell Rotella T6 5w40 that is specified in the Mopar parts. It was on sale a couple of weeks ago at Parts Source for $133 for a 18.9 litre pail and I got a $10 coupon for registering online so it was $123 plus taxes. The 5 litre was for $42. I also bought a 10 litre measuring jug at Amazon, I will put 8.5 litres of oil in it to bring to the dealer when I get the oil changed.

I thought the Rotella doesn't meat MS12991?
