With the number of threads with information about the new Ram 1500’s fuel economy, I thought members might be interested in the averages for the trucks registered through Fuelly. I will update the information periodically and add additional models--such as the V6 E-Torque--as information becomes available. The number in ( ) indicates the number of trucks reporting for each model.

Information as of September 24, 2018

Average: 5th Gen Ram 1500: 14.83 MPG (30) 81,342 miles of driving.

Hemi E-Torque 5.7 L
Laramie 16.60 MPG (1)

Hemi 5.7 L
Big Horn 14.85 MPG (3)
Lone Star 18.41 MPG (1)
Rebel 11.37 MPG (2)
Laramie 16.02 MPG (9)
Laramie Longhorn 14.68 MPG (4)
Limited 13.76 MPG (11)

Finally, here are some of the better links on this forum related to member experiences.

With winter on its way, I expect MPG to start going down as we warm up our trucks and deal with cold fluids.

The number of new RAMs tracked by Fuelly continues to increase, meaning more new trucks in the break-in period are included in the averages. When looking at the long-term reports for the Gen IV, I noticed gas models that are 3 years old tend to return the best MPG.

The E-Torgue is clearly averaging 1-2 mpg more than the Hemi. At this time, no Pentastar models are being tracked. I look forward to adding those.

This week, the average for the 2019 New Ram 1500 is 15.34 MPG (62) covering 147,145 miles of driving, a slight loss since October 14. The number in ( ) is the number of trucks being tracked by Fuelly, and the +, =, - signifies gains or losses since the last update. Colder weather will impact some of these numbers downward for the next five months.

Hemi E-Torque 5.7 L (Note: Due to an issue with Fuelly, two categories show up).
Laramie 15.94 (3) -
All others models 16.37 (6) New

Hemi 5.7 L
Big Horn 15.34 (9) +
Lone Star 18.03 (2) -
Rebel 12.17 (2) +
Laramie 15.91 (15) -
Laramie Longhorn 14.95 (8) -
Limited 13.96 (17) +

Average: All 2019 New Ram 1500: 15.33 MPG (65) 171,035 miles of driving. The number in ( ) is the number of models being tracked by Fuelly, and the +, =, - signifies gains or losses since the last update.

Hemi E-Torque 5.7 L
Laramie 16.29 (8) +
All others models 15.35 (7) -

Hemi 5.7 L
Big Horn 15.63 (13) +
Lone Star 17.65 (3) -
Rebel 12.97 (4) +
Laramie 15.85 (16) -
Laramie Longhorn 15.08 (8) +
Limited 14.18 (21) +

At this time, no Tradesman or V6’s models are listed.

Observations:
  • Rebel owners seem to be having more fun with their trucks :)However, 4 trucks makes a small sampling.
  • The heavier, more optioned trucks get worse mileage.
  • The E-Torque provides 1-2 mpg gain.
