Anyone else getting vibration in 4 wheel auto? It seems to happen between 30 and 40 mph. The more power I give it the worse it is.

I had the same thing the first couple times I used it. Never noticed the same thing with my 13 ram. I've been using the 4WD auto more with the snow the last couple days and didn't notice the vibration so I'm keeping fingers crossed that it's gone.

I get a slight vibration/resonance through the steering wheel. It's very slight but I think it has something to do with the front diff getting power under acceleration. I can't really explain perfectly. It almost feels like an exhaust drone resonating the steering wheel in a part of the rpm range.

I’m noticing a “shudder” in the 40mph range and also noticed it is in 3rd gear. It only occurs under moderate acceleration (when turning onto busy road). This doesn’t happen when I accelerate slowly. I mentioned it to a service desk worker and they said it’s normal and that if I use 2WD then it won’t happen which is true. However, I find it hard to believe that it is normal for 4WD Auto. My understanding is that it is essentially in 2WD unless it detects slip. I’ve been able to replicate this every time on dry roads.

Maybe? I think I figured out the vibration/shudder between 30 and 40 mph in 4WD auto. Today I equaled out the tire pressure on all four wheels and it appears to be gone. I tried getting it to shudder three or four times and it didn’t do it. Hope this helps

Got an appointment at the dealership next Monday afternoon. The first time I asked about it a couple weeks ago, they said it was normal for that to do it. So when I called today about something else I spoke to someone different and this person said that it is a good idea to have it looked at. She thanked me for the amount of detail I provided. So hopefully it’s not another “could not replicate”.

Taught at "Service Rep School", Service Rep Speak 101....."That is normal when it does that"......Taught at Customer School.....BS!. And just to let you know, I took my Limited out after reading your post, to thoroughly check out my 4WD at road speeds. No vibrations at all, as you would expect. Hope the Dealer gives yours a good look.

Mine is horrible! I posted about it a while back but haven’t had time to take it in. It
Feels like it’s binding and grinding, mainly lower speeds around turns or cornering. Please let me know what you find out so I can point them in the right direction when I do take it in!

Mine doesn’t do it in 4WD or 2WD... it only does it in 4WD Auto

Update: I took the truck to the dealer on Friday because the dealership wanted more time to look at the issue. Note: when I checked in at the service desk, the very detailed description of the issue I gave them over the phone only consisted of about 10 words on the service repair sheet that the technician would receive when working on my vehicle. They gave me a loaner vehicle and had the truck for 5 hours. They reported that they were unable to replicate the issue and found nothing wrong with it. However they updated the TCM with a TSB that fixed “the third gear issues”. The only third gear issue I saw in the TSB’s were that of 4 wheel low (nothing about 4WAuto). Not the issue I was having. When I picked the vehicle up I immediately felt the vibration again when pulling off the lot. So then I thought well maybe the transmission has to learn the TCM update. So I drove it for a while and the issue never went away. I called the dealership back and asked them if it would be possible if I could have a tech go with me so that I could show them what I was experiencing. They said that I could do that. On Monday after work I went to the dealership and took a tech with me and I was able to replicate the issue over and over again. The tech said that it should definitely not be doing that. He told me that he was going to submit the issue to Chrysler tech support and that he should have a response in three to four days. Fingers crossed. At least I got them to acknowledge that it was an actual problem.

I was afraid they would do the same with me, so I took a printout of every TSB that applied to my truck, including, and most importantly, the 4wd! Chrysler is aware of the problem and replacing front axles, so if for some reason they claim they can’t fix it, give them the tsb!

Good luck! I’ll update once my axle comes in, let’s hope it’s actually and fixes the issue.

Is anyone verifying that both axle ratios are the same, front and rear?

Just received a phone call from my dealer... they explained to me that they have been talking back and forth with Chrysler engineers and the engineers acknowledge that there is an issue most likely with the transfer case. The technician I spoke with speculated that when it’s in 4WD high the front and rear axles are locked in with chains and gears. He speculated that the 4WD auto issue was more than likely due to the clutch system that engages when it detects slip. He told me there is no timeline on when there will be a fix but assured me that the engineers know about it and are trying to come up with a fix. He mentioned it would be unlikely that it would come out as a recall because they are safety related issues. I will have to follow up with them occasionally to see if they come up with a service bulletin.

Just got back from the dealer. They said they have had a few people come in with the same issue, but it was normal. Yea......normal that my truck should start vibrating between 30-40.

I have the same issue. Mine happens in 4wd auto only and from 30-40 mph. The harder I accelerate through that speed the more it does it.
I’ve also found that if I keep it at around 37mph with a bit of load (like going up a hill) I can keep it happening. At this time I can switch back and forth between 2wd, 4wd, and 4wd Auto and it only happens in auto.

Temperature seems to affect it as well. Happens more when warmed up.

I took it to the dealer today and they said they couldn’t replicate. I asked for the tech to ride with me and I replicated it several times. They want me to book a time so they can put it up on a lift.

I recently had them re look at the issue. Had to take the tech for a ride. Couldn’t replicate it. Turns out if the tire pressure is lower then it won’t do it. Strange. Once I filled the tires to proper pressure it started again. I still don’t think it should be happening

Hi Skud & Tmcca4,

I'm sorry to hear that your dealers were not able to replicate this concern. If you do continue to work with them, or obtain a second opinion from a different local dealer, please be sure to let us know via private message. We would like to have your concerns formally documented and escalate cases so that you may be connected with a specialist for extra support while working with your dealers.
