18” Method NVs... tight fit but they clear

Ordered 1 wheel to test fit (Method NV 18x9 -12bs). They clear calipers by the thickness of two business cards (1/32”?). I’m no mechanic but I’m guessing that is a no go. Who ever heard of a truck that comes with 18” wheels that can’t fit... 18” wheels? Ugh... bummed.

Was pretty amped on 18” methods (NV, Grid, or 312). Guess I’ll need to either bump up to 20” or find a similar 18” wheel that clears (which could be an expensive search).

Or maybe just grind down the calipers?

(that’s a joke)

FYI Took a hard look at the inner lip on my stock 18x9 +19os wheels and discovered that they have a unique shape to clear the caliper (by ~1/8”). The inner surface of the wheel indents toward the tire just inside the thickness of the inside tire bead seat. Stock wheel caliper clearance pic below for reference.

This is terrible news. This was the exact wheel I wanted. 20's just seem so big, not enough tire.

Sorry to read they won’t work. That’s the price we pay for larger brakes on the Gen 5.

I am no expert on brakes or wheels, I just know what I think looks good. But, is that enough space to dissipate the heat? Will there end up being long term problems running it so tightly?

Brembo says 3mm min clear for their calipers (just for context... I obvs don’t have brembos), and the OEM 18x8 wheels only have another ~1/16” of clearance, so I’m guessing heat isn’t the issue. I guess my layman’s worry is a nail or screw jamming up in there(?)

Fuels have a touch more clearance however be careful with balancing weight placement all joking aside the part of the caliper that is closest to the wheel is in fact casting flash from the mold part line and could be shaved down a bit without hurting the caliper

Yeah it looks like residual material that someone already waved a grinder at in a hurry.

Yikes, that is close...I guess if they say it's technically OK, but I'd hate to get a pebble lodged in there and score up the inside of the rim...

Brembo applications are mainly for street driving or on-road track driving. I would assume baja/rally still vehicles require a much larger clearance over 3mm.

If going off road at all I personally would not do 18's with so little clearance for the reasons you state (rocks, etc). I went up to 20" on the truck for this reason even though I'd rather have stuck with my 18s.
