Bakflip MX4 water tightness

Hey everyone -- I know there's been some discussion in other threads about tonneau covers but I figured I would ask in a new thread. I have a Bakflip MX4 on my 2019 Ram 1500 (6'4 bed, no Rambox). I'm not expecting 100% water-tightness but if I can, I'd like to get it as close as possible. Today I took it through the car wash and here is a photo of the water that seeped in.

The water that gets in near the tailgate doesn't concern me too much. It's the water that has somehow got in over the wheel wells that I wonder about.

Any thoughts?

I have the same. Watched a you tube video that it can be the seals on top edge need to seat better. Can use a hair dryer or heat gun or let sit in sun to help them seal better. Also check the screws in the clip that holds the rods. Saw that they go into the drain channel and leak. I plan on taking them out and putting some silicone on threads and then putting them back. I fixed around tailgate edges with some weather stripping.

I have the MX-4 on my 2019 with the 5'7" bed. I get some water by the tailgate, but that is it. I have never taken it through a car wash. I hand wash all of my vehicles.

I have it and went through a monsoon heading to NC with all of our luggage in the bed. Arrived at the resort in anticipation of having to buy more clothing. Imagine my surprise based upon how hard it was raining that everything was completely dry. Yes there was some water on my tailgate, but that was due to me opening it to get the suitcases out.

That seems excessive. I have the Undercover Ultra Flex and the only water ingress is near the sides of the tailgate, which there's really no way to seal up.

I have the Undercover Ultra Flex also and I wash mine with a power washer and I only get water at the tailgate.

I have a Line X Truck gear “stealth” cover which is a rebranded Bakflip and it leaks like crazy! I returned the first one, got a second one and it leaks even worse. It leaks over the wheel wells. I am giving them a third shot with a replacement. If that doesn’t work, I’ve seen great things about the Lomax tonneau cover.

Could you post pics of the outside of the cover? Would like to see how the seals are lining up

Thanks for that tip on the screws. I also have wheel well leaks but not terrible. I will try the silicone. Nothing on the back. I have a bedrug so what little water does get in just dribbles down into it and away from the cargo.

I get a little bit of water after the quarter car wash, but not that bad.

That is pretty bad. From your photos the seals look well seated. If you try the screws treatment mentioned, please let us know if that helps.

Mine does not really leak at this point; I have only seen a little wet area in the front center of the bed, of all places.

No car wash, but it did weather a three day downpour in Northern California last week, I was actually surprised at the weather tightness.

I'm also seeing bunch of water in the front (closest to cab) corners, tailgate corners, and along the rails over the wheel wells.
do I have a bum product or bad install?

I've got a 2019 crew cab, short bed with the bakflip mx4

Yeah mostly. I loosened the clamps and pushed back down on the rails, turns out one of them wasn't seated right. The tap screw thing was not an issue. I also added some of my own weather stripping around the tailgate gaps.

Mine only gets water down by the tailgate. I've never had a drop on the sides. I'm sure that water is from the blow dryers the car wash uses forcing water over the gutter channel.

All, save your money if you are looking for a dry bed. I’m on my second cover, first was over 1/2” shorter on drivers side than passenger and leaked like a dish strainer. Second has right dimensions, but leaks like crazy in front corners of the bed. I’m going to seal corner flaps down with rpv to see if I can slow the leaks to an acceptable level. Customer service was ok, but product is extremely disappointing.
