Roughly 7,000 lbs.

After adding in my wife, two boys, sometimes my mother, and our gear, etc, I wouldn’t want to be less than 1,500 payload. If I found a Hemi Longhorn at that capacity with air suspension, and 33 gallon tank, i’d take it. I’d also like moonroof, off road group, and ramboxes, but those aren’t must haves.

Thanks. As we’ve discussed, this would be easier if sales and management were better educated on this topic. I’d more easily get talked into a Rebel, but not sure if that helps compared to a Laramie.

Don't discount his approach. Get a Big Horn with 3.92: package 2 so you get heated seats etc, as these tend to be at 1600 pounds plus or minus, then get the fabric seats replaced with Katzskin.

It's an idea I am keeping in my back pocket. I started talking numbers with Gastonia a Ram last week on a well loaded BH. Broke off on Sunday when they published new pictures of the truck with a lift, stupid tires big tires on non factory wheels etc. I was pissed and told them so.

A REBEL will have the payload. You will probably have to skip the pano roof and RamBox. But, decisions, decisions.

I do not know why sales people cant get interested in their product. It is sad when some dont even know the trim levels, let alone options.

I know the one REBEL I saw at Carlisle had 16xx. Maybe the Pano or the RamBox will keep you above 15xx. I sure hope it works out for you.

Here's my 1061lbs Limited now 80lbs lighter thanks to new lightweight alloy wheels and better highway towing tires.

To give you guys looking for a Longhorn something of a baseline, the only additional options I wanted and bought were the 3.92 gears and anti-spin on a 4x4, crew cab with 5.7 bed as shown in my signature. My payload per the sticker is 1572 lbs. I think that’s about as good as you can expect in a Longhorn.

You’ve got more than 500 lb payload advantage on me!

Any other options? That’s a really good number for a 3.21
Just for info. 3.21 or 3.92 have nothing to do with payload. They determine gross combined weight rating.

Just mentioning so people do not think getting/swapping to the 3.21 will make their payload higher.

It will happen lol

I’ve spent plenty of time looking at Rams OEM data. It sure looks to me like 3.92 equipped vehicles have a much higher rating.

3.21/3.92 have NOTHING to do with PAYLOAD (the weight of passengers, cargo, tongue weight you can put in/on your truck).

The 3.92 does have about 3000lb higher MAXIMUM TOW RATING (how much weight the truck can tow).

Two completely different things. In the real world you are much more likely to max out on payload well before you reach the max tow rating. Payload is usually the determining factor on how heavy a trailer you can tow. The max tow rating is more marketing than reality.

Yes, for max towing. Which is based off of GCWR.

3.21 13900
3.92. 17000.

Gear ratio has nothing to do with GVWR and payload. A 3.21 truck with 1500 payload will have the same payload as the same truck with 3.92

Both gear ratio trucks will have 7100 GVWR with 4x4 and 6900 GVWR with 2wd.

Still trying to get to the truth and this thread is fantastic. I dont own a truck yet, but this comes from shopping yesterday at one of the largest inventory dealers in the state.

Your claims that gearing doesn't mean squat for towing are wrong. Just look at rams website.
Take a simple spec you like. Change the gearing. You'll see what we all can. Eg CC, BH2 3.21 towing is 8000 to 8200, now change the gearing 3.92 gives you 3000lb more
