Update -- ended up buying the rebel

Good morning,

My wife is looking to trade her 2014 Wrangler Unlimited owned since new for a new or used truck. We are looking at Rams and F150s. I generally prefer the idea of buying used. We did buy the wranglers new as they retain their value so well. I have a cash offer for her Willys for 20K from one local dealer. KBB has the private party value for "very good" condition at 23-25. I think I might be able to do a little better at a CRDJ dealership as they sell Jeeps. I'm not a novice to buying cars, so I intend to get the price I want for the new truck, have a minimum price I'll take for the wrangler, and pay the rest in cash.

Our minim requirements are as follows
1. 5.7
2. 4X4
3. Laramie
4. Crew cab short box
5. Level 2 equipment group
6. Advanced safety group

I would also like rear posi or e-locker. I am currently living down south, but will be moving back to New England next year. If I were ordering I would include the off-road group as well. As configured "new" the MSRP I was shown on the ram site was 53. I really want to stay inside a $20K cash window including all fees. I think this might be realistic if I found a truck configured as such off the lot. I'd take more, but my minimum requirements are non-negotiables. It seems like people prefer dumb appearance packages over useful features , or at least that is how RAM orders the Trucks.

The handful of questions I have are as follows
1. I know this is realistic for used vehicles, but how about new?
2. How are they with price flexibility off the lot vs ordered when talking new vehicles
3. Do dealers generally move a lot on used vehicles? I've seen 2019 limiteds with 12-15K on them, can I expect them to budge down to 40K on those, or is that a pipe dream?
4. Is there a best source of extended warranties? I know there is generally some asinine markup at the dealer
5. Anything I should be aware of with this vehicles?

We are also considering F150s with the Coyote and 10 speed. My wife is partial to the F150, and it will be her truck.

Thanks in advance!

Glad that you gave more details about your thread, the title kinda’ makes it sound like you are looking for a new/used wife and need advice. I wasn’t going to comment on that...

I looked at my volume dealer nearby and didn’t see a single Laramie with a level 2 group. Zero out of like 10 that were equipped with 4x. That may require an order...

How flexible has pricing been on special orders as opposed to off the lot? As stated, it seems the MSRP on an order would be around 52-53K and anything on the lot that included all said features (as well as stuff I don't care about) would be closer to 60K.

Laramie level 1 is a lot more common than Laramie level 2.

also, what do you mean by a 20k cash window?

Used limited down to 40k are a dream. Average is 45k-50k

In fact I just picked up a CPO 2019 Limited crew, level 1 group, off road, 33gallon tank, trailer brake control with 15k miles for 47k which seemed to be right in the middle of pricing.

I mean I'm trying stay strictly under $20K cash on top of the trade it, so 40-45 total depending what I am offered on the trade. I already have a 20K cash offer from a dealer to just buy the vehicle, so I know there's some wiggle room there.

Ah, thanks for the clarification. You might be hard pressed to find a used Limited for 45. Most are 47-50. Like i said above, my CPO with 15xxx miles and above features was 47k.

To be honest, you could get a Laramie in that range new, minues some of your must haves

Used wise, easily can get a Limited like I did for a few thousand more than you upper limit. These Limtieds new, even with discounts were 55k and up new

CPO Hemi 4X4 crew cab Laramie with level 1 equipment group and tow package and 10K miles for 36K (not including tax), worth jumping on or should I hold out?

Side note: Has anyone ever dealt with CARFAX ****ing up and erroneously listing a vehicle with having been in an accident? My wife's jeep has an accident reported that never happened -- and of course that portion of the Massachusetts RMV is still shut down for COVID. The only way I have found to dispute this is I have a letter from my insurance company stating they never paid a claim or were contacted about a claim related to that car. This is, of course, infuriating.

I was looking at Ford as well, with the 5.0, but I'm not crazy about the Chevy/Ford co-developed 10 speed transmission. We have one in our Box Truck at work and it's weird

5.0 has had some oil burning issues recently (16+) so better research that.

Truck has 7,000 miles. Oil is disappearing! Latest thing that dealership says is
that they are replacing Converter Belt. Has anyone else had this problem?
