We got some good snow over thanksgiving so it was time to see how well the truck did in the snow and the big mud it created when it melted. The mud ended up being worse than the snow.

A few things I tested was my new tire deflater valves and my Smitty air compressor. The valves still required some adjusting, but hopefully they perform correctly on the next outing. The air compressor worked great and was very fast. I'm still debating installing it under the hood or even under the rear seat. Perhaps I'll just put in a quick disconnect for power and run it to the grill. That way I can keep the compressor portable.

Also I got to use the winch setup from @VICE design on a RAV4 that got stuck in a snowbank off the main trail. Pulled it right out with no issues. It had no business out there. I think they were out camping and woke up to the snow.

Looks like fun, I haven’t got to take mine out to play yet.

Looks awesome!!! What Smittybilt compressor did you go with? I'm still contemplating my options for OBA at this point...

Used mine to get the Jeep out in the snow this weekend:

The Jeep and the RAM are a great combo!

I went with the bigger Smitty compressor of the two that they offer. Part # 2781 with 5.65 CFM for my 34" tire.

Perfect, thanks. That's the one I was thinking (y)

Beautiful view. Where is that?

That's at the top of what is known as Raven's Roost, looking off to the North-East, in the Cascade Mountains of central WA. Here is a shot to the South-West, looking onto Mt. Rainier:

Sorry for the hijack

Used to have a Buick Rainier with a 5.3L V8. Nice SUV. That's the closest I've been to Mt. Rainier!

Great stuff! That storm is here in MA now. Wasn't supposed to get snow where I live, just rain, but within the last half hour that's changed to 4-7 inches. Been dying to see how this rig does.

I got some deflater valves for the beach and got tired of messing with them. I found a set of 4 that goes on your key chain, let air out super fast, and I just monitor pressures in the truck. Worked really well.

Excellent! I got my tire chains about a month ago, and I am ready to take the snowmobiles up to the open space trails to play in the deep stuff.

We got about 4-5 inches of heavy wet snow yesterday that stuck to everything. Great opportunity to test out my Rebel, and of course it did great. It was actually a little disappointing in how little I needed to use 4-wheel-drive as long as I was just more responsible with throttle application and momentum... 2WD was just fine. It was nice to play with the shift-on-the-fly 4WD as many of my previous vehicles were full time AWD... it was seamless. If anything, it was too confidence inspiring because you'll never know when under the snow is a sheet of black ice and all the traction in the world isn't going to help. The fact the stock Duratrac's aren't "3-Peak" rated didn't seem to matter one bit either. Maybe if we get really dumped on I'll have different impressions... but yesterday was par for the course in coastal New England. Good Test.

Thanks!

I was dying to test it out since it was the only unanswered question I had about the truck... what would it be like in the snow? I've read a lot of speculation, etc. about adding weight to the rear, needing different tires, etc. As far the conditions were yesterday, an empty bed and the factory Duratrac's did great. I was concerned about no 4-Auto on the Rebel... road conditions change from town to town and mile to mile here... but that also proved to be a non issue as long as I pay attention (which of course... it's snowing out!).

Super. Being in Houston, we don't have a chance to test our trucks in snow unless we drive north (or west) quite a bit.

Thanks again.

I forgot to mention that my parking sensor actually froze over while out on those trails that day (my guess). This kept the truck from knowing it was in Park. The whole underside of my truck was basically an ice block and I suspect there is a physical sensor on the exterior of the transmission that senses park that got encased in ice. This basically kept me from idling the truck unless I was inside of it with my foot on the brake. Also kept the remote start from working.

Once everything melted off the truck it was back to normal.

So just a heads up.
