FCA and Ram Trucks should hire KcRay for his efforts to help frustrated owners. They should bring him on as a consultant! Thanks man, you're the best!(y)(y):giggle::coffee:

Thanks Cross88, these 32 pages and 500+ posts show that not only did FCA mess up big-time by not admitting and fixing the issue but that the forum is an invaluable tool for owners. Things like this as well as other fixes really are a positive for your and other's ingenuity. Your pics and hopefully soon to be posted results (hint) are great!

I installed it tonight, went smooth and I have some installation pictures(which are really just oem, with harbor freight clamp, then completely installed), it’s really that easy. I’m also happy to report I didn’t have as much issue with removing the hose as others have posted. But I’m going to save the temperature results until tomorrow as it was in the evening and the temperature dropped to upper 70s according to my weather app and mid 80s according to my truck. I feel my truck lies to me lol. But my initial temps were taken in the low 90s so I’m going to wait until tomorrow after work when my truck has been sitting out in the sun all day and it’ll be low 80s. I just checked the weather and it’ll be low to mid 90s this weekend so I’ll do another test then. So stay tuned :)

So glad this hack worked, its a lot of truck to cool. With so much great design in this truck, what was FCA thinking?

It would be nice to know if the a/c hack works on the older body 2500/3500s. Did the 2019 2500/3500s convert to new refrigerant?

Curiously the old body 2019 1500 hasn't had any complaints as far as I know - maybe it didn't convert to the new refrigerant?

No matter what the dealer or the service people tell you when a r1234yf system is working properly it will cool with the exact same effectiveness as the r134a refrigerant.

This ridiculous myth that the dealers seem to be spreading to the public is an absolute patient falsehood.

We have a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee too, and it uses the same R1234yf. The a/c gets soooo cold, you have to turn it off, so its not a refrigerant issue, its a design flaw in the RAM's.

More info here as far as the vent temps specs go, the temps list are at 1000 rpms not idle so I am assuming 60 degrees at idle is going to be considered in spec.

As proven by clamping off the heater hose, and getting 40 deg temps.
I know people won't read 32 pages, but, that myth has been busted several times, but please people, don't let your dealer tell you it is because of the new refrigerant!

Alright so here are the results, today after work my weather app said 80* and the truck said 86*. Since it is no longer triple digits everyday I actually tinkered with the settings a little bit, and right now I’m at 4 full turns open from full close. My heat was steadily rising but when I took the picture it was at just over 100*, the a/c was at about 52* I would say. Both of those temperatures are at idle and taken from the center driver side vent. It might not seem like much of an improvement from the 60* idle it was at, but it is also cooling down around here and the valve is open 4/11 turns.

The only way to keep it in the 40’s is with the valve closed, opening it up even a little and it’s in the 50’s!

Already have the clamp in the ram(a while now). not needed in the Jeep.

I think everyone’s truck may be a little different, cuz I got mid 40s with it being 2 turns open. I believe it also highly depends on the outside temperature. Regardless, this mod works, and I’m looking forward to next summer and having some ice cold a/c.

Went full open on the valve as our morning temps are now in the low 50s and need to be able to clear the windshield. With afternoon temps in low 80s no issue cooling the cab. No time or need to re-measure vent temps.

Wouldn't something like this work for guys that are having weather changes and don't want to open the hood and adjust every day (which I don't blame them)? I know this is not a 5/8" but just for the idea. Let me know your thoughts... https://www.amazon.com/Electric-Solenoid-Normally-Closed-diesel/dp/B007N0J98E/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=5/8"+electric+shut+off+valve&qid=1569075827&s=gateway&sr=8-2

There's a link in an a/c thread 2-3 months back where someone provided an amazon link similar to that for the 2018 Ram 1500.

Does anybody have pictures or locations for clamping the hose on a 3.6l V6? I can’t figure it out from the V8 pictures. My temps are 53F after 30 min idle with ambient temp of 92F.

Like most, when my truck idles, im in the low 60s. When driving, I'm in the high 40s. Seems to me part of the issue could be a Freon volume flow issue. We need a hack with a higher flow rated compressor...….
Not true, I'm in the desert at 115 degrees all the time. With the AC hack I can have my super hot cab cooled down in no time - even if I just idle. Yes, I do have the panoramic roof, too. I've tested everything and put a video together I am going to upload to youtube. With the AC hack in place the AC performs just as good as the best of vehicles and better than most. This issue is completely isolated to the mixing door.

I took a few pictures, and need some assistance.
First, this looks like the in/out hose for the heater core thru the firewall, near the passenger side.
Heater Core thru Firewall.jpg

And one line goes into the larger hose attached to the radiator.
Return Line.jpg

And I believe the hose I need to clamp is the one shown below, entering the engine area, must be the water pump?
Pump Out.jpg

Is this correct? I would hate to clamp a random AC or radiator hose and burn up my truck!
