Ram's Raptor-Killer Hits The Sand, For Testing Off-Road...

Over the past year, 5thGenRams.com has been keeping an eye on the ongoing development behind the 2021 Ram 1500 Rebel TRX. We have seen a number of all-black prototypes over the past few months around the Metro Detroit area. But as development continues, we are now seeing that Ram/SRT engineers are not holding back at making the HELLCAT-powered Ram 1500 a Ford F-150 Raptor killer, but the most capable off-road half-ton on the market.

Our friend Jordan Denhoed, happened to catch a fleet of TRX prototypes testing at Silver Lake Sand Dunes on the west coast of Northern Michigan. This is the first time we have seen multiple TRX prototypes in the same area testing together and the HELLCAT-powered Ram 1500 seem right at home in the sand. While engineers were planning to get some testing done yesterday on a virtually empty area of the dunes, Jacob was lucky enough to capture some of the first off-road images of the new TRX for us.

While there is nothing new to really see on these prototypes, we do notice that all the trucks are wearing Laramie Black front fascias, unlike the truck we caught recently that featured a Laramie Longhorn front end. The pictures still show that all of these black prototypes are still carrying the 8-lug rear axle while still having a 6-lug axle up front.

It’s no surprise that Ram/SRT engineers have taken the 707 horsepower pickups to the sand dunes for testing. The spot is popular with manufacturers from the “Big-3” automakers when it comes to testing off-road capability of certain trucks and SUVs. However, it does go to show us the Ram is planning on taking on the Raptor directly, as the Raptor is known for its Baja-like prowess in the sand after competing in events like Baja 1000 on an annual basis.
