CAUGHT: 2025 Ram 1500 with Hurricane Twin-Turbo Power!

Revised Interior, Exterior, Powertrains, and Tech Are Coming...

Over five years have passed since the fifth-generation Ram 1500 (DT) pickup was introduced at the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP) in Michigan. This iteration of the Ram has been immensely successful for both the Ram brand and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), now known as Stellantis. However, it is now due for a mid-cycle action (MCA) or refresh.

While there has been a lot of focus on the upcoming all-electric 2025 Ram 1500 REV, Ram remains committed to offering a robust lineup of internal combustion engine (ICE) powered pickups.

With the HEMI® engine nearing the end of its run, Ram is not only looking to update the Ram 1500 lineup with fresh aesthetics and advanced technology but also with new powertrain options. The iconic 5.7-liter HEMI® V8, a staple of the Ram lineup since 2003, will be succeeded by a more contemporary and potent lineup of twin-turbo Hurricane inline-six engines.

These new engines promise improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions compared to the HEMI while also generating more horsepower and torque than many competing naturally aspirated V8 and boosted six-cylinder power plants. With their inherently smooth-running I6 configuration and state-of-the-art technology, the twin-turbo Hurricane engines will be available in two variants:

  • Standard Output (SO): This variant prioritizes fuel economy and incorporates features like cooled exhaust gas circulation (EGR) while delivering enhanced power and torque (over 400 horsepower and 450 lb.-ft. of torque).
  • High Output (HO): Designed for optimal performance (over 500 horsepower and 475 lb.-ft. of torque), the HO variant maintains significant fuel efficiency even during demanding tasks such as towing.

Additionally, the current 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with eTorque is expected to return as the base engine, undergoing minor updates. All powertrains will continue to be paired with ZF-engineered 8-speed automatic transmissions.

Regarding the design, the refreshed Ram 1500 trucks will feature subtle updates. Recent spy photos reveal a new front end with a bolder grille design that will enhance the truck’s appearance. Stellantis provided a sneak peek of the update during its EV Day 2021 presentation, indicating that the refreshed Ram 1500 will align more closely with the current truck’s styling than the all-electric REV model, which doesn’t require a large grille for cooling. A redesigned front bumper will also be available.

At the rear of the truck, a tailgate design reminiscent of the REV is expected, featuring R-A-M text across most models. In addition, taillights will likely receive an update, aligning them with the design of the new electric variant.

Recent images also reveal a set of newly styled 20-inch wheels and camouflaged door handles, possibly hiding new lighting elements.

While the interior remains camouflaged, Ram has already offered a glimpse into the interior details with the REV. The refreshed Ram 1500 will likely set a new benchmark for pickup truck interiors, featuring authentic, premium, comfortable, and durable materials. The interior design team has focused on premium textures, colors, and materials while enhancing functionality to provide unexpected luxury. Notable materials include carbon fiber, metal, and leather, creating a luxury level only seen in a Ram truck.

The most technologically advanced Ram 1500 will offer cutting-edge features integrated into its class-leading interior. This includes the advanced Uconnect 5 system with a new 14.5-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a segment-first 10.25-inch passenger screen, a digital rearview mirror, Head-up Display (HUD), and a Klipsch Reference Premiere audio system.

Additionally, a more luxurious Tungsten model is expected to debut. It will feature a suede-wrapped headliner, A- and B-pillars, visors, and heated and ventilated premium quilted leather seats for the driver and front passenger. These seats will offer 24-way power adjustments, memory settings, a massage function, power lumbar support, and four-way powered headrests. In addition, the Tungsten model will boast a well-crafted, high-quality feel and appearance with details such as a Tungsten badge on the center console with inlaid lettering and diamond knurling. Other features include brushed platinum patina aluminum litho bezels, a unique shifter center cap, an ultra-premium Klipsch Reference Premiere audio system with 23 speakers, dual wireless chargers, and a metal pedal kit.

The anticipated release date for the updated Ram 1500 is the 2025 model year, and it is expected to arrive at dealerships in mid-2024. Ram enthusiasts eagerly await the finished product, which promises to combine refreshed design elements, advanced powertrain options, and a technologically advanced interior to continue the success of the fifth-generation Ram 1500 lineup.
