CAUGHT: 2019 Ram 2500 Big Horn Shows Its New Face:

We Get Our Best Look Of The Most Popular Trim Level Of Ram Heavy Duty...

For past several months, we have been going through hundreds of spy photos of the upcoming 2019 Ram Heavy Duty, trying to get a good look at what has been hiding behind that heavy camouflage. Now that there is less than two months till its official debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Ram is slowly peeling back that camouflage and we are starting to see what the upgraded 4th generation Ram Heavy Duty is really starting to look like.

This time our spy photographers caught the 2019 Ram 2500 Big Horn (Lone Star in Texas) out testing in the chilly Michigan weather.

While the biggest complaint of the all-new 2019 Ram 1500 from Ram enthusiasts was that the new 5th generation Ram pickups did not have as an aggressive “big-rig” look to them, Ram has addressed the issue with the 2019 Ram Heavy Duty. The 2019 Ram Heavy Duty retains much of its “big-rig” styling, adding the impressive technology of the all-new 2019 Ram 1500.

Don’t just think that the 2019 Ram Heavy Duty is a simple refresh. The 2019 models have been heavily reworked over. While the platform, cab and box are all retained from last year’s model, the new Ram Heavy Duty has a completely redesigned interior that matches its half-ton brother. This required Ram engineers to completely redo that electrical architecture of the truck.

We have also told you about the upcoming updates to the Ram Heavy Duty underneath the skin. Underneath, new ZF-sourced 8-speed automatic transmissions built exclusively for Heavy Duty trucks as well as a new Cummins turbo diesel under the hood that is pushing at the door on 1,000 ft.-lbs of torque.

These pictures of this Big Horn trim level equipped 2500 model, show us our best look yet at the new Ram Heavy Duty styling on the most popular trim level of Ram 2500. Following the 2019 Ram 1500 styling, the Ram 2500 Big Horn has the same grille texture inserts as the 1500 Big Horn. The horizontal grille lines with the “RAM” text in the middle of the grille and U-shaped bars that run from the outer part of the grille to the outside of the grille.

For the first time, we are seeing what the Ram Heavy Duty Big Horn/Lone Star/Laramie LED headlamps look like with out camouflage tape on them. We clearly see that the headlamps carry a very similar design to the 2019 Ram 1500 Big Horn/Lone Star/Laramie signature LED lighting. Headlamps are pushed into the opening of the horseshoe-shaped Ram grille, while the “Ram Horns” trim runs over the grille and then runs down and over the headlamps similar to the Ram 1500. Underneath and in the middle of the new grille design we see an air intake for cooling, placed right above the front bumper.

Again we see that the new Heavy Duty badges has been moved up to the hood, as it is poking through the camouflage on this model. Early spy photos have shown that just like the Ram 1500, RAM text will be put on the lower portion of the front doors.

The all-new front bumper integrates the Ram 1500’s front LED fog lamp housing, which also integrates the front parking sensors. This will give the truck a much more clean look by not having the circle sensors across the front of the bumper.

In the rear of the truck, we also see that the updated Ram Heavy Duty keeps the same box as the 2018 model year. However, that box is now equipped with the same rear bumper as the Ram 1500. This bumper has a lower step pad for easier access to the box. Rear tail lamps share similar styling to the Ram 1500’s LED lights and look to feature the same blind-spot monitoring system. This particular model has the cargo camera which is integrated to the LED third brake light.

Expect the new Heavy Duty models to start arriving in dealers around mid-March. Ram will start production of the upgraded Heavy Duty in January just before its official debut. Production will ramp up in summer, with all variants in production in June.

Because these trucks are still considered the 4th generation of Ram pickups, we have created another website that will keep the focus on just these trucks as well as all Heavy Duty Ram pickup information, news and rumors as well. HDRams.com will be taking over where 5thGenRams.com is leaving off as the hub of all Heavy Duty information. This way 5thGenRams.com will focus truly on the 5th generation of Ram truck information.
