The highly-anticipated 2021 Ram 1500 TRX has taken the world by storm. Earlier this year, the performance off-roader earned MotorTrend’s 2021 “Truck of the Year”, marking the first time an automaker had won the award three years in a row. The awards didn’t just stop there, with Car and Driver adding the 2021 Ram 1500 its “10Best vehicles for 2021” list for the third consecutive year. Car and Driver highlighted that “the addition of the Ram TRX gives buyers a ridiculously fun option that isn’t for the faint-hearted. A truck that is this good off-road has no business being so sophisticated on [the] pavement, but it is and we love it.” Not a bad way to start out the launch of a new model.
Adding to the success of the Ram 1500 TRX, FOUR WHEELER magazine announced its “2021 Pickup of the Year” winner and it was no surprise that the TRX took the top honors.
“We’re incredibly proud to earn this award from the respected experts at FOUR WHEELER and feel validated that we continue to build the best trucks available,” said Mike Koval Jr., Ram Brand CEO. “Our new Ram 1500 TRX sets the benchmark for extreme performance pickup trucks and clearly telegraphs the Ram Truck brand’s leadership in the segment.”
The FOUR WHEELER Pickup of the Year award is determined by a panel of judges from various 4×4 media brands (FOUR WHEELER, 4-WHEEL & OFF-ROAD, and JP MAGAZINE) after a week of testing the latest offerings from manufacturers. The tests are conducted over 1,000 miles of varied terrain including sand, dirt, gravel, rocks, mud, and snow, while a loose-dirt Hillclimb and water crossings are also included in the rigorous testing cycle as well.
“The Ram 1500 TRX isn’t just a performance truck that absolutely owns the go-fast terrain, but it is also a capable crawler on the trail that offers impressive towing and payload numbers. The TRX easily shames sports cars on the pavement and the interior rivals anything the luxury class has to offer,” said Sean P. Holman, Content Director, Truck & Off-Road Group. “Surprisingly, the TRX is not a one-trick pony. It is one of the best all-around trucks we’ve ever tested, and the TRX just so happens to be able to carry insane speeds in the dirt with over 1,000 pounds in the bed with seemingly the same amount of effort as it takes to go down the highway on the way to work.”
“The Ram 1500 TRX is a breathtaking truck that flat out impresses,” said FOUR WHEELER Editor Ken Brubaker. “From its bad-boy muscular stance to its stunning pin-you-to-your-seat power to its incredible suspension that easily tames the worst terrain, the TRX is the total package.”
This year’s FOUR WHEELER’s “Pickup Truck of the Year” award event, marked the 32nd year that the award had been given. In order to participate, the invitation-only competition was only open to all-new or significantly revised pickup trucks for the upcoming model year. This year’s competition consisted of the GMC Canyon AT4, Jeep Gladiator Rubicon EcoDiesel, Jeep Gladiator Mojave, Nissan Titan Pro4X, and Ram 1500 TRX.
